I love reading your posts. This one is especially good because it gave me a real lift. To read about a place that I also love and remember well as a child, probably playing with you and Alexander in Cave Rock, reminds me of all the good things about New Zealand. Living here in Jerusalem with the constant tension, prejudice, and other sad examples of the inhuman and degrading way some people treat others, it is great to read, and see, a reminder of happier times.

What a lovely piece. I’ll never forget Dominic and his motor bike when he stayed with us here. I suspect that was the time he was first showing the signs of schizophrenia. He’s almost exactly the same age as Nicholas who is 59 today.

Profoundly moving (more so on second and third reading) Thanks Justin for being our ‘archivist’. I do remember going to some dreadful ‘bookmakers’ (as we call them) with Anne to wire money to Dominic. He had called having found a ‘phone card on the pavement…….
Anne was terrific with him (and with everyone who knew her). I still have her facebook entry on my computer ??????????????

Loved your list! Might have to compile a wee list of my own. Reminds me of ‘High Fidelity’ by Nick Hornby… Compilation tapes were the ultimate way of making lists. It’s too easy with iTunes playlists now.

And unlike George, you may not get the million miles (or whatever) badge of honour from Mr Big Moustache on TWA, but you do get to go home to the arms of a loving family – sigh – your life Mr Hygate, is a Hollywood movie. Tom is happy that Mr Clooney is supporting the protest against the naval base on Jeju Island.
